Protecting an Azure App with Front Door and WAF
A business-critical Azure web application needed a safer public entry point, managed HTTPS and stronger protection against direct access to its App Service origin.
What the business needed to solve.
The application was publicly accessible on Azure App Service and needed a controlled edge layer for its production domain. The client wanted web application firewall protection, managed TLS and a configuration that did not leave the origin openly available as an alternative route.
The wider platform also used Azure Communication Services for transactional email. The operations team needed clearer delivery-event visibility so application and communication issues could be investigated more quickly.
How Cloud Infosolution approached it.
Front Door as the public entry point
Mapped the production domain to Azure Front Door and configured routing to the App Service origin.
Web application firewall protection
Applied a WAF policy at the edge so incoming web traffic could be inspected before reaching the application.
Origin access restrictions
Restricted direct App Service access and allowed approved Front Door traffic using Azure controls and request validation.
Operational visibility
Connected Azure Communication Services delivery events to the monitoring workflow to make email outcomes easier to trace.
A more secure and supportable environment.
A controlled application path
Normal production traffic now reaches the application through the designated Front Door endpoint.
Reduced origin exposure
Direct requests to the App Service origin were blocked as part of the production hardening.
Clearer service visibility
The team gained a more useful view of application entry traffic and transactional email delivery events.
The result was not simply a new endpoint. It was a clearer security boundary, a protected origin and a more supportable production path.
